Florida Summers

moisture weights the scorched air

the days yawn wide

as nights curl up tightly

tourists flee the lettered storms

leaving luxurious space

every place

feels summer’s pause

from the routine and law

of fall

here vacations reign

we are resting from the insane

duty to remain

in paradise

some flee to cooler lands

gridlocks disappear

a quietude settles here

summer’s sigh breaths in the searing heat

mangroves drink daily torrents of rain

so life can begin again

after we first rest

humidity blessed

to await winter’s reprieve
